Community Counts is a six-day introduction for building community in your middle school classroom. While, I wish that every classroom had the time to spend six days solely on community building, I realize that there is a need to start content, and the days are limited.
I would suggest using this resource in your tutorial class, homeroom, or advisory period.
Oftentimes, those classes can become study halls because of the lack of structure, but hopefully this resource can help get you started.
1. Lesson Plans
Detailed lesson plans give you ideas for teaching the content to your students. Topics include: I Have Worth, Communication, Disagreements, Making Connections, Grit, and Celebrations
2. Editable Slides
Editable slides have been provided to help guide classroom discussions
3. Printable and Group Activities
Each lesson includes a group activity that helps to facilitate a class understanding of the content. Examples include get to know me sketch bubble, dialogue circles, disagreement stations and gallery walk, yarn game, and grit puzzles.
4. Supplies you will need
In order to facilitate the discussions and activities you will need yarn, colored pencils and/or markers, sticky notes, and butcher paper
