Pages 3-6 Picture cards of community helpers can be used for Memory Match or Go Fish. There are 16 community helpers targeted.
Pages 7-10 are descriptions of each of the community helpers. Lay the pics from pages 3-6 out front or give a few to each player and see if they can figure out which community helper you are describing.
Pages 11-14 Community Helper Bingo game. Use the description cards (pages 7-10 or picture cards pages 3-6 as calling cards).
Pages 15-30 include a picture of each community helper and four items that are associated with each helper. Pass out the community helpers to each player. Cut out the objects and place face down on the table or put in an envelope. The students can take turns picking a card and deciding who it might belong to. The player who has all four things for each of his/her community helpers first is the winner. You can also target possessive pronouns with this activity by having the student say, “It is his/her ______” or practice possessive /s/ (“That is the farmer’s tractor.”)
You can also target final /s/, contracted copula, and vocabulary by having the student use the carrier phrases such as “It’s a _________” or “That’s a __________” whenever the student chooses an object to match to the community helper.
