This community helper pack includes a series of worksheets for students to practice labeling a picture. Each of the labeling worksheets includes an answer sheet which can also be displayed as an anchor chart on the bulletin board. Students can either write the labels or cut and paste them.

Community Helpers Character Traits Game
Community Helpers Character Traits Yes/No Game is the perfect game to undertake with your students! In this character trait game, students will be making inferences about community helpers in order to sort the character trait cards under the yes or no headings. This community helpers game, will expand students' vocabulary, and consolidate their understanding of character traits.

The game consists of:
• 2 heading - yes/no
• teacher instructions
• 60 character trait cards
• 12 community helper cards – firefighter, chef, doctor, nurse, mailman, mechanic, police, teacher, vet, garbage collector, crossing guard & detective.
This yes/no game can be played with 1-2 players, small group or played as a whole class. To play as a group:
•Students sit around a circular table or on the carpet. Place the headings yes and no in the middle of the circle.
•If group of 6 students, give each student 10 character trait cards to place under the yes or no heading.
•Students take it in turn to select a community helper card and sort their cards under the correct heading.
•Ask each student to provide evidence or a reason why they think the community helper displays that character trait or not. For example a doctor is caring because she looks after sick people.
Option 2 - Play Corners - whole class game
•Stick the heading yes in one corner of the room and no in another corner.
•Teacher calls out a community helper and a character trait. Students walk to the yes or no corner.
•Select a student to give a reason why they went to the yes or no corner for that particular character trait.
•If the students went to the wrong corner then they are out of the game.
•Keep playing until you have a winner or small group of students who are left.
By playing this game regularly in class students will have a deeper understanding about character traits. This game also assists the teacher with class discussions about character traits and reasons why students believe a community helper displays a particular character trait. Answers may vary with students as they have different beliefs and personal opinions.

Community Helpers Task Cards: Higher Order Thinking Skills (35 colored & 35 b&w). These task cards are designed to be used when undertaking a unit about 'Community Helpers.' Each task card is color coded, based on Edward Debono’s Six Thinking Hats. These cards are perfect for student’s who require extension. Prior to using these task cards it is ideal if students have an understanding of the different meaning behind each colored thinking hat.
The tasks cards could also be used in: Literacy Centers, whole class discussion, shared reading, guided reading, homework, morning work, early finisher activities and Daily.
Here is a brief summary of the hats below:

• Yellow hat – likes, positive
• Black hat – dislike, negative
