An open-ended card game to practice community helpers vocabulary. Included are 8 different community helpers-themed card sets.
To play, choose 4 community helpers to play with (teacher, firefighter, police officer, mail carrier, doctor, garbage collector, soldier, or bus driver) and use all the cards included for each of the 4 community helpers, plus 4 “Wild” cards. In total, you should be playing with 108 cards.
Play with typical UNO rules, where each player must either match the community helper or number on their turn.
Additional ideas for play:
Articulation: Students must say a word/phrase/sentence before playing a card. Or, students must say a word X number of times, depending on what the number is on the card they are playing.
Language: Talk about community helpers as they are played-- i.e. When a “doctor” is played, ask questions like, “Where would a doctor work?” “When do you go see a doctor?” “Name a tool a doctor would use” etc...
