Children love learning about their community! This a great packet to help them learn about their community. This is a great addition to my Community Helpers Emergent Reader as well as it was created using clip-art by Scrappin Doodles. This would be a great addition to your lesson plan. I have created vocabulary cards that can be used to introduce each community helper. The definitions are simple and easy for the students to learn. I have added coloring sheets that can be used for morning work, time fillers and the like or placed in each center in the PK classroom. There are webbing activities for each helper to aid in the discussion of the helpers and their job as well as a sentence segmenting activity to help students learn about sentence structure. The theme headers can be used to introduce the theme for the week and be a constant reminder to the students about what they are learning for the week. Next, I included a Community News Helper Template so that the students can go home and interview or research a community helper and report their findings back to the class. How cute is that?! Last, I have created simple reading comprehension questions related to community helpers in an A, B, C, etc. format. Great practice for high-stakes testing. I added a FREEBIE which you will have to see when you purchase the product.
