Community Helpers Literacy: Centers, Games, and Printables
This set of centers includes: sight word and reading fluency practice, syllables, sorting nouns, long, short vowel and nonsense words, and ABC order. All of the games and centers are aligned with the common core. This set of centers is 69 pages long. It is appropriate for 1st, for added review and practice in 2nd grade, homeschool, and special education instruction.

"Jobs in Order"
Students will physically manipulate words to put them in alphabetical order, or place the words in alphabetical order when looking at a list. Students will complete an extension activity to demonstrate their understanding.

"Sorting Nouns"
Students will sort cards with words and pictorial representations into the correct category. Students will sort nouns into categories, based on their attributes. Nouns will be sorted into person, place, or thing. Students will complete an extension activity to demonstrate their understanding of the content.

"Sorting Syllables"
Students will sort cards with words and pictorial representations into the correct category. Students will sort the words by syllables. Students will say the word aloud and count the syllables.

"Community Helpers– Breaking it Down"
Students will use the letters in the words “community helpers” to create smaller words. Students will physically manipulate the letters to create the smaller words. Students will record their work on the extension worksheet.

"Ladders to Reading Fluency"
Students will practice reading sight words to improve reading fluency. They will use their “reading muscles” to read the words up the ladder in one breath.

"All Around the Town"
Students will read short vowel or long vowel words to move forward in a game.
