Product Description
This lesson was created in response to “Thirteen Reasons Why,” a 2007 novel by Jay Asher about teenage mental health & suicide which was adapted into a 13 part series by Netflix. First released on March 31, 2017, the Netflix adaptation of “Thirteen Reasons Why” was immediately popular with teens and young adults. This lesson functions well in tandom with student interest with "Thirteen Reasons Why," but it is not specifically about the book or show, and also functions just as well on its own.

This lesson was specifically designed to grow the idea of community responsibility. Students participate in an activity to consider the idea of community responsibility, and then have an opportunity to discuss and process with the facilitator.

Learning outcomes include an understanding of the ways we can all be more successful if we watch out for one another. This learning outcome can be narrowed by the facilitator to specifically address mental health, or can be kept broad and general.
