The Spanish that Works (TM) sentence builders are charts that break down the parts of a sentence (or phrase) into columns, so that beginning students can practice stringing words together to make meaning. For example, the Lesson Four sentence builder (available separately for free) includes a column of verbs (tengo, tiene, hay, etc.), a column of words used before nouns (un, una, mi, su), a column of nouns (libro, menu, pastel, etc.); and a column of describing phrases (en español, para mi amigo, de chocolate, etc.). This set of seventeen community module sentence builders (plus instructions) can be used to reinforce and expand on the sixteen lessons of Spanish that Works for You (available on Amazon and BarnesandNoble.com) or as a supplemental activity to any beginning language program. Grammar structures practiced include article-noun agreement, first and third person of selected conjugated verbs, infinitive verbs, ways to say is (es, está, hay, tiene), noun-adjective agreement, the time, day, and date; and the present perfect tense (first and third person). Please see the Saying & Understanding handout (available separately for free) for a key to the pronunciation guide, which trains English speakers to both understand and speak Latin American Spanish. The Lesson Eleven and Lesson Twelve sentence builders, which introduce infinitive verbs, are available separately. For additional information, visit www.spanishthatworks.org.
