This communities unit has three projects that are editable so you can adjust them to your desire. The first has pages with a different community worker on each. Students pick which community worker they would like to be and write about them and their job.
The other project is a very fun filled project where students can demonstrate their creativity. You can choose to have students make it in class or at home. A parent letter is included. Students are assigned different buildings that are important in their community such as gas station, hospital, restaurants, library, etc. Students do a short writing assignment explaining its importance to the community and the services it provides and then produce a 3D model of their building. Sample pictures are included from models designed by students. Create a little community inside your classroom with these wonderful displays and models. Also a great idea to have them displayed in a place where all can see them in your school. The third is a community scrapbook which you can decide to use very simply either as a group project or individually or you can extend the activity to have students can go on a scavenger hunt through their community. Students really enjoy all these activities and make GREAT hands on activities to liven up your lesson on communities.
