I read with my students only some of the chapters. There are twelve chapters. Great way to introduce your students to magical realism. I read with me the first chapter (enero) because it introduces the characters and the conflict. They also read the second chapter (febrero) in which Tita makes the wedding cake and her tears pour into the cake making everyone sick at the wedding. Lastly, we read the last few fragments for the last chapter so the students know how the novel ends. We don't read the entire last chapter because of some scenes.

There is also a You Tube video for the wedding cake scene that I like to show as a closing activity.

The novel can be easily found in PDF format online. I suggest you read the chapters you would like to read with your students because some chapters may contain scenes that are not appropriate.
