“How To Teach Spanish Letter Sounds” consists of 5 activities that can be done during the language arts warm-up and some that can be done as sponge activities or as center activities. These activities may take only a few minutes everyday, but the results are extraordinary as you will be reaching every learner.
Please be aware that the focus of this product is the acquisition of letter sounds, not names.
Activity 1: Sound Charts, Chants, Motions: The students will become familiar with the letter sounds by reciting the chart using chants and motions. The vowels and the most common consonants are listed first.
Activity 2: Alphabet Cards with Pictures: Each letter has 3-4 pictures that begin with the given sound. Use these cards to teach the number of syllables in a word, initial sounds, and can also go into a center so that students can make lists.
Activity 3: Picture Sorting: 2, 3, and 4-way sorts are provided. Just laminate the sorting mat, write in the letters that you want the students to work on, cut up the matching pictures, and you're done. This activity can begin as a whole group review and then go into a center.
Activity 4: Uppercase and Lowercase Letter Flashcards: These are flashcards used for the automatic recognition of the letter sounds. They can also be placed in a center for continued practice and even for upper and lowercase matching.
Activity 5: Picture-Sound Matching: This activity is great for all students, but is particularly important for struggling students. Its purpose is to really familiarize students with the sound chart so that they can associate each letters with a picture, thus allowing them to learn the sounds for each letter.
More detailed instructions for each activity are available in the packet.
