Handout is in PDF format (3 pages). Contains 24 fill in the blanks for students to practice conjugating the Present Subjunctive after reading the short story "Como la vida misma."
This story ties in nicely with giving directions, traffic signs and reading a city map in a Spanish speaking country. It's been my experience that teaching a story that connects nicely to the unit improves students' comprehension and acquisition of new vocabulary and grammar.
There are two writing prompts for students to create their own sentences using the Present Subjunctive. Students can work with a partner or individually. Short story can easily be found online:
A great idea is to buy small toy cars at the dollar store and print free domain maps. After reading the story and learning how to read a city map, students work in pairs to practice givings directions. One student reads aloud the directions, previously written by students, while the other navigates the toy car on the city map. Lots of fun!
