Showing evidence is such an important skill for kids to use! These passages are designed to get kids to look back and find the answer in the text. Each passage comes with 5 questions-no prep need! Just print, copy, and give!!
This resource can be used in a number of different ways. You can simply make copies and use in the classroom or you can create what I call “Comp Files” and use as a homework resource. Simply attach the included reading log to one side of a file folder and then include a passage. Students take the comp file home each night and the parents sign off on it…the perfect way for getting in those parent contacts!
My evidence bookmarks are also included in this unit! These bookmarks feature evidence prompts such as “According to the text”, “Based on what I read”, and more!
These passages are written for the months of August and September, but can really be used anytime. The fiction passages are themed around school, while the nonfiction are written based on the historical events/science content taught in grades 3,4,5.

"I love and will continue to purchase your comp files because they are great products! I've used them for homework, morning work, or during literacy stations. My students look forward to them and are now text based evidence superstars! Thanks for yet another fabulous set! :)"
"This is such a wonderful resource and worked for my differentiated homework that I use for my students. It's perfect for pushing my children to go back into the text and writing detailed responses, I have seen such growth already with some of students and their written responses!"
"These are some of the best investments I've made on here! These are great for multiple grade levels and even my struggling readers in 8th grade find these extremely helpful in finding evidence."
"I love these comprehension files! There are not words to describe how much they have changed my morning work routine. My students love reading them as well. They are able to complete them quickly, and they are even getting better at answering the questions. The little strips with the sentence starters have even carried over to speaking, which is amazing, considering all my students are EL's and struggle with using academic and scholarly language in the classroom."
"This is my newest favorite Tpt resource! I love how I can use these is a variety of ways! I have used them so far during some small group teaching, work station time, homework, and as morning work. I also love how there are so many files. Usually when you buy a bundle for a month there are only 5 or so passages. This resource has 15! I will be buying each month's set from now on. I absolutely love these!"
"These are perfect for getting kids in the habit of looking back in the text!"
