Book Leveling
This text is rated as a Lexile 610 book, or a Guided Reading Level V and DRA 50. Due to the book’s reading level, recommendations for this text range from 4th to 5th grade, though I used it with 6th grade due to the ***high occurrence of figurative language,*** which we were working on! Intended Use
This document is for use in public and/or homeschool classrooms to get students thinking more deeply about the books that they are reading. Analysis of texts, characters, and language are extraordinarily important, and the rigor at which we provide our instruction must match the high expectations we all have for our students.
The layout is designed so that students are given only one page (printed front and back) at a time; page 3 and 4 of this document would be printed together, done by kids, handed in, and then they would work on page 5 and 6, 7 and 8, etc. This allows kids to move forward in the book without feeling overwhelmed, and gives teachers the opportunity to assess reading more frequently.
