Peer Editing Sheets (2 different)
I use this essay assignment with my high school students. It asks students to examine similarities between their two summer reading books, which are two memoirs (Chinese Cinderella and A Long Way Gone). You can use this assignment for ANY two or three texts that share similar themes, moods, tones, characterization, etc.
I ask students to choose one overarching topic (theme, mood, tone, etc.) and then to choose THREE examples of that topic. They then must develop a thesis statement. You can edit the sheets to YOUR liking and YOUR texts. This is also a great assignment to learn or practice MLA formatting (a common core standard).
The peer editing sheets asks students to examine their typed, MLA-Formatted rough drafts. It comes with TWO peer editing sheets: the first asks the first peer editor to identify specific requirements ON the author's essay, and the second asks a different peer editor to leave suggestions for the author, etc.
This is a great assignment to get your kids writing clear claims/arguments/topic sentences, formatting in MLA (or you can delete this requirement if you want), writing a thesis statement, etc.
ADDITIONAL RESOURCE FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT IS POSTED UNDER THE "PAIRING TWO TEXTS: FLIP FLOP AND BLOCK METHODS" FILE IN MY STORE. IT'S A GREAT SUPPLEMENT WITH THIS ASSIGNMENT. ALLOWS THEM TO ORGANIZE THEIR SUPPORT FOR THE BODY PARAGRAPHS OF THIS ASSIGNMENT.
