This is a challenging essay (alternatively an oral assignment-would work for a Socratic Seminar!) assignment that requires students to focus on word choice, word order, and punctuation. They look at two different translations of just two stanzas of a longer poem from ancient Greece. The assignment has very specific, clear directions and a rubric for students to follow. It can be used in any high school class where students are asked to read and evaluate literature. The translations only take seconds to read, but they generate great analysis and discussion. Another product from the classes of Thomaswrites.
