Product Description
This three page document has an instruction sheet, with prompt, prewriting, and a six trait rubric for grading a 2 to 3 page literary analysis.

Students are prompted the following: The primary sources of both Olaudah Equiano (The Middle Passage) and William Bradford’s Plymouth Plantation discuss a voyage to America. Their voyages took place over one hundred years apart. Comparing and contrasting their purpose, the conditions, and human suffering will help shed some light on the beginnings of the Americans who prevailed against adversity.

Students are also asked to discuss the Mayflower trip first in terms of purpose, conditions, and suffering. This could make up three paragraphs. Then they are to discuss the slave voyage in terms of purpose, conditions, and suffering- another three paragraphs. With introduction and conclusion, the essay becomes about eight paragraphs.
