This outline guide leads students step-by-step to prepare an essay which compares or contrasts two characters or ideas in literature. I designed it specifically for use with Shakespeare's Henry V and used Don Quixote as an example because of what we had just read in class at the time. This guide worked very well to help my somewhat advanced 7th and 8th grade class prepare their essays on their own as homework. However, be sure to take time in class to do a practice Venn diagram on the board together to make sure students understand how to make one on their own. I am providing this outline guide as Word document so that you may tweak it as necessary to help your students prepare for essays on other literary works. Enjoy!
