Compute Median and Interquartile Range and Compare between Populations
This product includes a lesson plan with worksheet and answer key aligned with the common core. Review how to compute and interpret the median and interquartile range from raw data. Students also learn how to compare populations’ center and spread using the median and interquartile range, respectively, and how to summarize their conclusions. The worksheet can be used as an in-class handout or as homework. Questions assess statistical reasoning as well as mechanics.

Common Core Standards:
HSS.ID.A.1: represent data with plots on the real number line (dot plots, histograms, box plots).
HSS.ID.A.2: use statistics appropriate to the shape of the data distribution to compare center (median, mean) and spread (interquartile range, standard deviation) of two or more different datasets.
About this product:
The materials in this product have been compressed into a *.zip file. Software to unzip the file is necessary to use these materials. The materials are unzipped into seven separate files. Software for reading PDF(*.pdf) or PowerPoint (*.pptx) documents is needed to use the respective file types.

The data were simulated using R Statistical Software, a free open-source software for statistical computing. Please let me know if you are interested in educational products on using R for the Common Core.
