PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Comparing and contrasting can be challenging to young students. Students often don’t know where to begin to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information on various topics. They also struggle with expressing and organizing their thoughts. This can lead to great difficulty reading critically. This unit is designed to expose them to the steps needed to compare and contrast and also show them how to present their information in various formats. Please check out the description below and the free preview file before deciding if this product is appropriate for your students.

This unit includes:

-Anchor charts with I can statements for objects, animals, actions/events, people/characters, places/settings, and texts.
-Objects: There is a color and black/white version of an original text comparing grapes and apples. This text is followed up on with a Venn diagram. For differentiation purposes, cut and paste statements have been included along with an answer key.
-Animals: There is a color and black/white version of an original text comparing cats and dogs. This text is followed up on with a T-Chart. For differentiation purposes, cut and paste statements have been included along with an answer key.

This text is followed up on with an activity where students are given a statement and they must decide if it is true for David’s party, Rachel’s party, or both parties. An answer key is also included.
-People/Characters: There is a color and black/white version of an original text comparing two siblings’ experiences at summer camp. This text is followed up on with a Double Bubble organizer. For differentiation purposes, cut and paste statements have been included along with an answer key.
-Places/Settings: There is a color and black/white version of an original text comparing one person’s diary entry about a trip to beach and another person’s diary entry about a trip to the mountains. This text is followed up on with an activity where students are given a statement from each text and they must determine how their experiences were similar. An answer key is included.
-Texts: There is a black/white version of an original text containing two fairy tales. This text is followed up on with a color code direction sheet. Students will analyze the story elements in each text and code them accordingly. An answer key is included.
