Product Description
Activity 1: Comparison / Contrast Paragraph Examples (3 pages)
- Three versions of a comparison paragraph and a contrast paragraph based on an article about crocodiles and alligators (the article can be found in another product available in my store—Compare and Contrast #2: Differentiated Academic Language Search).
- Version 1: Compare/contrast language and transition signals highlighted or marked in bold and color text (to project on a screen or print in color)
- Version 2: Plain text (if you would like to have students mark or help you mark the key language together)
- Version 3: Compare/contrast language and transition signals marked with underlining, circling, and gray highlighting (best for printing in black and white)

Activity 2: Comparison / Contrast Paragraph Examples - Modified (3 pages)
- Same as Activity 1, but with shorter paragraphs and simplified language

Activity 3: Parts of a Comparison / Contrast Paragraph (2 pages)
- Students create a color key to mark the different important elements of a paragraph in the example paragraphs from Activity 1

Activity 4: Parts of a Comparison / Contrast Paragraph - Modified (2 pages)
- Same as Activity 3, but with the modified paragraphs from Activity 2

Activity 5: Comparison / Contrast Paragraphs - Directions and Score Sheet (2 pages)
- Directions for students to write their own paragraphs (I had students choose two animals to compare, but whichever topics suit your class are great!)
- Requirements listed for each element of the paragraph
- A score sheet to help you grade their paragraphs
- I would give both sheets (copied back-to-back) to students so they know exactly how they will be graded

Activity 6: Comparison / Contrast Paragraphs - Outlines (2 pages)
- Outlines for students to use to write a draft of their paragraphs
- Word banks with comparing/contrasting language and transition signals

Activity 7: Comparison / Contrast Paragraphs - Outlines - Modified (2 pages)
- Same as Activity 6, but with larger spacing and sentence frames instead of word banks for comparing/contrasting language
