This Cold War/division of Berlin letter writing activity has students write a series of letters between cousins separated by the Berlin Wall during the Cold War, covering the span of the life of the Berlin Wall.
There are 7 specific items the students must address in each pair of letters (including government, quality of life, knowledge of and exposure to pop culture, and more), and an extra credit opportunity (topics and expectations are clearly outlined in the instructions and rubric). By the end of the assignment they will have written 14 letters, 7 from East Berlin and 7 from West Berlin. A rubric is included but the point values are blank to accommodate your own grading system.
