This is the gradesheet /rubric I use for compare/contrast essays. Points are given for thesis statement, title, introduction, topic sentences of body paragraphs, organization (point by point or block format), transitions, conclusion, point of view and spelling/grammar. I also use this as a peer review. Students exchange papers in groups and complete the grade sheet for their partner(s). I like to do a round robin so students read 2-3 other essays. If done well, it will take about 30 minutes. They then use the remaining class time to revise and edit based on partner's suggestions before turning in final drafts to me.
This was based on a 50 point essay, but you'll be able to change the point totals on the word doc to fit your grading policy.
