This is a 4 paragraph essay planner that will help students ease into a compare/contrast essay. This planner is very flexible and generic for your use and gives students some choice and control. The pattern for this essay is for an intro., a body of 1 compare and 1 contrast (in any order), and a conclusion.
This form will also allow students to refer to ANY text if that's what you'd like! There is also a section at the end that will prompt students to mark up a sample essay (provided by the teacher), their own essay, or perhaps even their partner's essay.
Students will define compare/contrast and record key words. Teachers will provide a prompt that can be pre-recorded or students can copy the prompt onto their paper. From there, they will add all of the necessary essay parts: an introduction that includes a thesis/main idea statement; 2 body paragraphs that require topic sentences, evidence in the form of examples or quotes; and an appropriately written conclusion! Prompts, starters, and reminders are all there to provide the necessary scaffolding.
Designed for multiple uses, multi-use.
