Description

After reading "The Ravine" by Graham Salisbury and "The Jumping Tree" by René Saldaña, have your students write an essay comparing and contrasting the two stories. Included in this assignment is an essay plan for your students to follow, a detailed grading rubric, and a planning sheet. The essay plan details what students need to include in their introductions, body paragraphs, and conclusions in order to produce a thorough essay that effectively compares the two stories from the Collections textbook. The student planning sheet allows students to organize their thoughts into a well-structured plan before writing. Rubric categories include Planning, Organization and Structure, Purpose and Supporting Details, Transitions, and Conventions.
