Product Description
A Great Resource for Daily Five Writing!

******************************************************
This Compare and Contrast Journal is a wonderful resource to give students structure during writing time, but still allow choice on topics. The journal includes:
* Cover Page- with description of Compare and Contrast Writing
* Strong Writing Model (2-page spread)- with clear expectations and a strong model, compare and contrast words are underlined
* FIVE (5) Writing Prompts- with Venn Diagram for organization, word bank, space for a text or graphic feature, and a Common Core aligned informative writing checklist
* One (1) Free Choice Compare and Contrast Writing page

*********************************************************************
Suggestions for use:
Make a copy of the journal for each student. The journal is formatted for 2-sided printing with staples to form a booklet.
Use the Cover Page to introduce compare and contrast writing to your students. You might fill out the Venn Diagram with similarities and differences for buses and airplanes.
Then, using the strong model pages, teach students the four paragraph structure for organizing their compare and contrast writing.
Next, use the Strong Writing Model comparing buses and airplanes, to show students what high quality writing looks like. Help students identify compare/contrast words (they are underlined) in the strong model. Highlight transition words and talk about other expectations for grade level writing.
Finally, allow students choice as they pick and choose which writing prompts most interest them. Students can use independent writing time to work on compare and contrast writing.
Allow students to choose their favorites to edit, revise, and publish.
