Comparing Area and Perimeter - Building Block Area and Perimeter
This resource gets your students working with building blocks to build different rectangles and compare their area and perimeter in a fun, hands-on way.
This resource includes:
•Minds-On Task – this question can be used as a diagnostic, entrance slip, or a full group introduction to the task. Students should have a variety of building blocks available to them so they can explore the answers to this task.
•12 Task Cards – these task cards make a great math station or partner activity. Students will stretch their brains as they try to manipulate the given blocks in different ways to get the required perimeter or area. Students can explore and work with the cards as a math center (students do not require building blocks to complete these cards, but I would recommend having them available for students so they can actually explore the concepts in a hands-on way). Including the recording sheet (where students will draw the answer) as a requirement for the students to complete allows for an easy formative assessment for you.
•Answer Page and Recording Page – students can self-check their answers during math stations, or you can use the page for more formal checks.
*** This resource is included in my Area and Perimeter Bundle which contains 3 different building block resources to get your students working with area and perimeter. ***
