Product Description
I created the Students Going Shopping for Decimals - Assessment Activity when teaching the 4.NF.7 standard.

The aim of this assessment is for the students to buy all 10 items on the list for the least cost. When they find the item i.e. apples, they will need to check that there isn't a card that has cheaper apples. The sheet asks that the students write down two prices, while making sure they are the cheapest prices.

Once they have finished they need to add up how much they have spent.

This assessment expects the students to be able compare decimals visually by going shopping for fruit. There are 78 cards with a picture of the fruit they need to buy and the price. Student are expected to spend the least amount of money to buy specific 10 products. There are 3 sets of pictures for each fruit with different prices on each.

The decimals used are similar so that the students need to concentrate to work out the cheapest price. This activity can be made more challenging by making sure that the fruit cards are place well away from each other around the class room or to simplify, place the fruits cards next to each other.

There are 5 different shopping lists to make sure that the students don't go to each other for answers

Whilst I use it to assess my students, it would work equally as well as an activity.
