This comparing fractions activity is an engaging way to introduce comparing fractions in a hands-on way that utilizes real-life scenarios.
Students will be given the chance to choose if they rather have 1/4 or 1/8 of a cookie? 2/6 or 4/5 of a marshmallow treat? This activity brings this difficult skill to life and helps students make concrete connections that will help them as they progress in this skill.
There are many slides to choose from with a variety of food options (cookies, chocolate bar, marshmallow treats, and bananas) and a variety in the difficulty. There are comparisons with common numerators and denominators and more challenging slides with unlike numerators and denominators making it easy to tailor to your grade level and students. There are also editable slides so you can add in your own comparisons or scenarios.
