Need a reference to use when teaching your students to compare fractions with a like numerator or denominator? Here is a great reference to hang in the classroom!
According to the standard, the students should be able to compare fractions with AND WITHOUT fraction models. This poster will be a great way to give students extra support as they move through the stages of CRA (Concrete, Representational, & Abstract).
First, use this poster while the students compare fractions with fraction tiles. This makes it CONCRETE for them.
Then move on to using this poster as students use number lines to compare the fractions. This is REPRESENTATIONAL. They will draw the number lines to represent the fractions they are comparing on them.
As students become more independent, they won't have to use fraction models every time because the concept is becoming more ABSTRACT for them. They are developing number sense with fractions. Even still, this poster can be used for them when they need it.. from the stages of CRA (Concreate, Representational, and last Abstract)
