This combines 2 fraction resources to help students learn to use 1/2 as a benchmark when comparing fractions. Students first develop a solid understanding of fractions that are equivalent to 1/2, and then students learn how to use 1/2 as a benchmark when comparing and ordering fractions.
Included in this resource:
Understanding the Fraction 1/2
This resource starts by have students shade pictures, shade fraction bars, and label fractions on a number line so that they can visually see 1/2 and fractions equivalent to 1/2 in a variety of different ways. Then, there are several fun activities - including a cut and paste sort, a fraction maze, and some fraction games - to help your students practice this skill and be able to name fractions that are equivalent to half quickly and without having to think about it.
Included in this packet:
-2 anchor charts
-5 scaffolded worksheets/activities that guide students in their understanding of ½ and fractions equivalent to 1/2
-2 equivalent fraction games, focusing on 1/2
This resource directly addresses the fraction standard 3.NF.A.3.B for 3rd grade students. The scaffolding and extra practice would be particularly helpful for special education students or students that struggle in math.
Comparing Fractions to 1/2

Included in this packet are:
-7 worksheets that help scaffold students so they can compare fractions to 1/2
-2 comparing fractions games to practice this skill
-Answer Keys for the comparing fractions worksheets
These activities can be used as comparing fractions workstations, homework, review, math centers, differentiated activities, morning work, and more.
