Encourage students to better visualize fractions on number lines in order to compare them. Since this page does not specify which fractions to use, it can be used over and over to gain further practice with the skill. At any given time I teach this unit, I may print this page off 3 different times! The students feel much more comfortable with it being the same page since it is such a challenging skill for 3rd graders to grasp!
TEACHER TIP: Have students label each "fraction family" (i.e. third, halves, etc.) in totality from 0 to 1. Next, circle the various fractions on the number lines that they are comparing. Have them then highlight from left to right in order to see which line is longer.
