Once students have a solid understanding of fractions on a number line, this lesson is perfect for introducing students to comparing fractions. Students will ONLY use number lines in this lesson to compare fractions (no shapes or cross multiplying).
The slides are animated and allow for you present the information with reminders and helpful hits. There are also some critical thinking questions on the slides to ensure that your students are understanding the concept, not just scraping the surface. Some of the slides do not have much animation, which allows you to complete the question with them, or have a student come to the board and show off their new knowledge.
I have also included a "common misunderstand" slide before you get too deep into the lesson, as well as a "closing exit slip" slide to display on the board at the end of the lesson (or you could print it out as a handout for them to turn in) which is great for a quick formative assessment.
