Product Description
This product contains great practice over the 4th and 5th grade skill comparing fractions with unlike denominators. It starts off with two sections of warm-ups, requiring students to compare two given models (models are given in two ways: circle/pies and number lines).

Warm-up 1:
-4 questions
-Visual circle/pie and number line models
-Identify fraction shaded and compare using <, >, or =

Warm-up 2:
-4 questions
-Visual circle/pie and number line models
-Shade in fraction given and compare using <, >, or =

The next section of the product contains an I Do, We Do, You Do of this skill WITHOUT using the models. For this piece, students practice comparing fractions by finding equivalent fractions (finding the least common denominator). A student-friendly step by step process chart is included in each of the problems to help students with each step in the process. This helps to chunk the work for students into more manageable pieces.

The last section contains 3 word problems over comparing fractions. Students are welcome to refer to the process chart, but hopefully will begin to internalize those steps when generating their new equivalent fractions. This helps to build conceptual understanding of fractions. There is a huge Common Core focus built into this product. (PDF file)
