Aligned with Common Core Standards 2.MD.4 and 2.MD.5.
2.MD.A.4 Measure to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressing the length difference in terms of a standard length unit.
2.MD.B.5 Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve word problems involving lengths that are given in the same units, e.g., by using drawings (such as drawings of rulers) and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
I combined these two standards because of how well they complement each other. The students will be required to measure two objects using the same unit and give the difference in length. Students will also solve length word problems involving given units of length using values within 100 and writing equations with unknown values represented with a symbol.
This assessment contains:
- One 10-question pre-assessment with answer key. Each item is worth 10 points;
- One 20-question post-assessment with answer key. Each item is worth 5 points*
Note: No rulers are necessary but the rulers given are not to scale.
*the post-assessment includes one short answer question with a grading rubric and the answer key has sample student answers.
