Product Description
This activity was originally developed to go along with Lucy Calkins Grade 3 Character Studies, Lesson 18, "Comparing and Contrasting the Lessons Characters Learn". We used this worksheet as a guided lesson, introducing students to the concept that characters can learn similar lessons across two different texts. We used Opal in Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo, and Dyamonde in Make Way for Dyamonde Daniel by Nikki Grimes. Both characters learned that making new friends helps heal loneliness. (Other lessons can be used and accepted for these characters.) This activity sheet can be used with other texts as well, as a whole group, small group or independent practice.
