Every young child enjoys activities that revolve around them as well as activities where they work with a friend. This is a letter recognition activity that revolves around each child’s individual name. It’s hands-on, engaging and an activity my own young students have enjoyed immensely. There's even an optional worksheet for student accountability.
• I can identify letters in my name.
• I can identify letters common to my name and that of a friend.
• I can work with a partner
In this activity, students use a Venn diagram and a "trash can page". They place these on a flat surface, then take turns choosing a letter tile (included), saying the letter name and placing it either on the Venn diagram or in the Trash. Students experience higher level thinking skills as they compare the letters in their name with that of a friend. They also experience how to utilize a Venn diagram in sorting letters. Upon finishing, the student may transfer his information onto a venn diagram worksheet.
