With this interactive activity sheet, students will develop greater number sense and recognition of place value by breaking down numbers, listing them in a place value chart, modeling the numbers by drawing each value with place value blocks and comparing the numbers based on their work. By breaking down the numbers, students are better able to compare each "place" when trying to determine which number is greater than/less than or if the numbers are equal to one another.
Students can come up with numbers in various ways: roll die to add a number to each place value box, use number cards and draw out random 2, 3, and 4-digit numbers, teacher assigns numbers, etc. This can be used as a whole group lesson/practice, partner activity, center activity or individual assessment. It's up to you!
