Description

Flip and Compare with Love Bugs Comparing Quantities and/ or Numbers

This engaging, flexible Valentine’s Day themed activity assists your students in developing a solid understanding of comparing numbers by providing a bridge between the concrete and the abstract. Depending on your students’ needs it may be used with small math, resource, or intervention groups or as an independent math station. It may be completed by a single student or small groups of students taking turns. Quantities are represented on love bug cards with dice (1-12), dominoes (1-12), pictures (1-10), ten frames (1-20), base ten blocks (1-20), and tally marks (1-20). There are also 2 sets of number cards; 0-20 and 24 selected numbers 0-120. Each card comes with 2 different background colors. Cards may be printed either one-sided or using the two-sided option. Cards are sorted by background colors into two stacks. Students flip a card from each stack and place the correct comparison card in the middle. The comparison cards provided are: is more than, is greater than, is less than, is fewer than, is the same as, is equal to, >, <, and =. A choice of 2 recording sheets is included. These love bug cards may also be used as a matching activity for quantities and numbers 1-20 or for a memory match game.
