*Activ Inspire Flipchart
Students learn about comparing positive and negative numbers and calculating the difference between the two. Throughout the lesson students use the greater than and less than symbols to make comparisons.
The start of the lesson is used to recap adding and subtracting two digit numbers. In the main part they use a number line and inequality symbols to compare the size of positive and negative numbers. At the end of the lesson students interpret a line graph showing the daily temperature readings in Alaska.
Differentiated Learning Objectives
All students should be able to use a number line to compare the size of positive and negative numbers.
Most students should be able to use inequality notation to compare the size of numbers.
Some students should be able to compare the size and magnitude of positive or negative fractions and decimals.
