Use this smart board to introduce how to compare whole numbers, add, and regroup them. Drag the place value disks to each category creating the numbers at the top. Ask students to compare the numbers first. Looking that the place value chips, how can you tell which numbers is bigger? Continue the lesson by instructing students how to add the numbers using the chips. Manipulate the chips on the smart board to demonstrate how to regroup. Students often have a hard time understanding how to regroup numbers. Using this visual helps students to understand how to move and manipulate each place value group.
For students who need additional help visit my store to find place value chips that you can cut, paste, laminate, and students can manipulate. I have made them 2'' so that you can use a circle punch to cut them quickly. Students can use these while working through the lesson or in stations later.
Each slide is written in a variety of ways (Standard form, Word form, Expanded form) to review material already learned.
There are additional slides that you can print off and have students complete independently or for homework using markers to show each place value chip.
