Need a project idea for your culture/religion units? I certainly did. My students seemed to do fine with religions of Southwest Asia and Africa, but for some reason really struggled with Asian philosophies and religions. I wanted them to really dig deep into these religions, so I created a poster project where they would conduct their own research and then compare and contrast two of the religions. The project is completely editable, so you could adapt the concept to compare and contrast three religions, or even more if you want. I opted to have my students compare two and then view/take notes on the other posters to gather information about the remaining religions.
Except for posterboard to create the posters, this document contains everything you will need to give this project to your students. Highlights of the document include:
--a detailed, step-by-step and fully editable instructions packet for students
--an organizer for students to record their research
--a detailed and completely customized 7-point rubric to grade the projects
--blank maps for students to use on their poster
--a self/partner evaluation for students to complete during or after the poster project to reflect on their own contribution to the poster as well as their partner's
--a PowerPoint presentation that goes along with the instructions packet, including photos of an exemplar poster
Note: I teach 7th grade Social Studies in Georgia. This project aligns with Georgia standards, but it can be adapted for comparing any religions in any unit!
