UPDATED ***February 2016****
This is a very difficult standard to find teaching resources for, so I created some to help teach this! The myths, fables, and folktales are from the Mcgraw Hill website, but have all been re-written to make more sense, with lots of added detail. I also included 4 activities to go along with each set of stories! Your students will be able to compare and contrast theme, characters, sequence of events, and patterns in all of these different types of stories!!!
I designed this to fit R.L 4.9 but realized it also fits with a third and 5th grade standard 3.2 and 5.9.
Email any questions!
Outline of plan
Folktale: Anansi the Spider (African Folktale)
Folktale: Tale of Coyote and Hen
4 activities to accompany the two folktales
Fable: Coat for a Bride (Chinese Fable)
The Goat and the Wolf (Greek Fable)
4 activities to accompany the two fables
Myth: Thor's Hammer
Myth: Perseus and Medusa
4 activities to accompany the two Myths
You will love using these stories and resources to teach this tricky standard! Completely aligned with the common core!
