In this scaffolded lesson set, students will use the topic of Hank Williams to compare three different texts. These texts include:
A short biography on Hank Williams
"I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" lyrics by Hank Williams
"Midnight in Montgomery" lyrics by Alan Jackson
Students will answer questions connecting each text and are required to use text-based evidence.
This is directly CCSS aligned. Although aligned to 6th grade standards, this product easily works in all middle school grades as well as early high school. Standards include:
CCR.R.9: Analyze how two or more texts address similar themes or topics in order to build knowledge or to compare the approaches the authors take.
CCR.W.8: Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, assess the credibility and accuracy of each source, and integrate the information while avoiding plagiarism.
SL.6.2:Interpret information presented in diverse media and formats (e.g., visually, quantitatively, orally) and explain how it contributes to a topic, text, or issue under study.
