Product Description
I use this activity as a beginning of the year get-to-know you activity, however, this can be done at any time. This high engagement lesson has students watch two music videos, Brave by Sara Bareilles and Roar by Katy Perry, then compare and contrast words and phrases in lyric sheets, identify similarities, and write about differences. All of this leads to a collaborative discussion, and individual poems written by the students.

This lesson meets a variety of CCSS: Engage in a range of collaborative discussions, Compare and Contrast two authors differing presentations of the same event, Determine explicit meaning of a text, Cite evidence, determine a central idea, determine the meaning of words or phrases, integrate information to demonstrate understanding of a topic.
