This is a fantastic lesson that uses two different Greek stories that require students to closely read text, answer complex questions that are inferential and text dependent (all standard based/labeled), and ultimately complete two high level writing prompts that are comparative in nature. All questions are developed from state leveled tests and range in level from basic to very rigorous.
In this packet, students are given the biography of "Demosthenes" and the myth of "Icarus and Daedalus." The following skills are assessed...
- Compare and Contrast texts in different genres
- Prediction skills
- Context Clues
- Sequences of events within a plot
- Citing evidence in text
- Point of view
- Independent reading comprehension skills
This is a very rigorous lesson and asks students to use higher level thinking skills in order to address the questions that are posed. However, it is set up to be taught in a way that will appeal to all levels of learners in your classroom. Questions are all Common Core based and are wonderful practice for those pesky PARCC, AIR, or other state assessments.
Questions are labeled with standard match.
