What is a Math Exploration Station?

They are fun hands on ways to use manipulatives to learn key aspects of each TEKS. These are great for small groups, centers or even whole group.

What's included in Comparing and Ordering Numbers Math Exploration Stations:

Station 1

Students will use place value chips to build numbers and explore how a place value with different numbers tells which number is bigger. Students will practice checking each place value and identifying which place value is different. They will visually see which number is bigger with the place value chips.

Station 2

Students will use place value chips to build numbers and explore how a place value with different numbers tells which number is bigger. Students will learn about the three symbols in comparing numbers (< > =). Students will then apply this new information and practice using the symbol to identifying the larger numbers after building them with place value chips.

Station 3

Students will draw 5 cards with one digit on them, they will then make 5, 5 digit numbers using only the digits drawn. They will then record their numbers on a rectangle and practice arranging the numbers in order from least to greatest.

Station 4

Students will draw 5 cards with one digit on them, they will then make 5, 5 digit numbers using only the digits drawn. They will then record their numbers on a rectangle and practice arranging the numbers in order from greatest to least.

Station 5

Students will use place value chips to practice creating numbers to make an equation with symbols and a number true. Students will draw a card with a number written on it. They will then place the card in the middle of the equation. ______ > ________ > _______. They will then have to come up with number that go in the first and third blank that make the equation true. I have created challenge cards you can use for this station to make students generate number for the first and third blanks that have some of the same digits in the same place value as the card they drew.

Students will use place value chips to practice creating numbers to make an equation with symbols and a number true. Students will draw a card with a number written on it. Math Challenge Station

Students are given a table with symbols, some number, and some numbers with missing digits. Students will have to create a number that matches what the symbols are asking them for.

Math Vocabulary Station

Students are given a sheet where they have words and definitions. They will need to draw a line matching the word to the definition.
