Included materials are provided in black and white, to print on colored paper, and in color. EVERY activity is differentiated into varying levels. This activity has a variety of ways to be used. Feel free to come up with your own as well! Instructions are provided for 2 general ways for students to interact with the fraction cards (rainbow equivalent fractions and fraction number line/ clothesline). These activities are then broken down into ability levels. A response/ recording sheet is also provided. My background is in Montessori. I find myself incorporating many of the basic philosophies of Montessori learning into my materials. One component of all Montessori lessons, is the presence of a control of error. I believe in this idea. It is helpful for students to be able to correct their work as they go along, if only to avoid incorrectly learning content due to mistakes made in independent practice. Those mistakes and misconceptions can be very difficult for the teacher and student to “undo”. Most of my math activities contain a control of error card. I have always given students access to these, although if this does not fit your philosophy, there is no need to print them!

Rainbow Equivalent Fractions
Have students match the fraction circle pieces to the equivalent fractions with denominators from halves through twelfths. (see further explanation on differentiation of material on next page)
This activity lends itself very well towards being a center activity. You can choose which level to put out into your centers based on the general level of your class, or assign each student a letter (A,B,C) that correlates to which card they should complete.
Small/ Guided Math Groups:
This activity is provided in three different levels. Level A gives students many clues and helpful hints. This includes color coding, visual reminders, pictorial representations and extra written direction. Level B eliminates some of the color coding, the pictorial references and some of the ”clues”. Students are asked to complete an extra step, which is to match the fraction circle pieces to the appropriate fraction. Level C takes away all clues, color coding and pictorial representations.
Whole Class/ Interactive Notebook:
You always have the option of printing the B&W versions and completing this as a good ole worksheet! You can also print multiple pages per sheet and have the students complete this activity in their interactive notebooks! It makes a WONDERFUL reference page for all of those commonly encountered fractions, and a great visual when teaching Least Common Multiple. Students can draw a quick clothesline across the page and glue on the T-shirts in order.
