This is an activity I used during a formal observation. It gives examples when you can model comparing numbers with your students. Then, it gives a real-life connection to the grocery store. Students must pick items from a grocery store, add up their totals, and compare how much they spent with a partner. I used fake groceries that I had prices, but students can easily make up their own. It also provides a global connection to prices of a gallon of milk in the United States compared to a gallon of milk in China. Students must write a sentences explaining why they think that is.
