This is a full-process writing unit teaching the concept of comparison and contrast, culminating in a compare-contrast essay. This unit begins with a tutorial on the compare-contrast, complete with explanations, definitions, examples, and key words. The tutorial culminates with students writing a compare-contrast paragraph. Next, students will use their knowledge of compare-contrast to compose a full-process essay. After choosing their subjects to be compared, students will complete the working outline, and use the working outline to compose their essays, with peer editing and revising occurring before publication of the final draft. Included in this unit are a lesson plan with scope and sequence, a tutorial on comparison and contrast, prewriting activities, an outline and working outline, editing and revising activities, and a scoring rubric.
